From Michael at 2006-12-01 19:03:23 : Nice photo collection, Alan! This brings back many memories of my train spotting days in Yorkshire in the early 60's. We lived in Batley and our house backed onto the main line just south of the Morley tunnel. Lots of steam action even in 1964, including a double header in the afternoon. I remember in particular a trip with our teacher Mr Duckworth in the last year at Park Rd primary school, I think we went to Crewe. Just before we moved to Canada I took a special excursion behind "Blink Bonnie" visiting shops in Derby, Crewe and maybe Doncaster. I have an old B & W photo of myself at age 12 in the cab of Britannia. What a thrill! Thanks for preserving these images.

From PierreMartini at 2007-12-16 17:04:32 : A brilliantly evocative picture of an era now long gone. I was 5 years and 10 months old in Aug 60, and from summer 1958 to 1961, my mother, younger brother & I would fly from Tunis to spend a month in Derby at my maternal grandparents, taking the train from St Pancras to Derby and back. All I remember are visits to Derby midland station, Pear Tree station, and the mixture of terror and excitement at the passing of the huge steam engines. Great days!
